Sleeper Cave Records
Sleeper Cave Records is a full service recording studio located in a historic mill in Western Massachusetts.
About
Sleeper Cave Records was built in 2018 by engineer Andy Cass, and a large group of friends and musicians in Western Mass. The studio is spread across two gorgeous rooms totaling up to over 1600sqft. The rooms are 30ft high with beautiful vaulted ceilings and exposed wood beams. The space consists of a 850sqft tracking room and a 750sqft mixing room with lounge area.
Located 15 minutes outside of Northampton, MA, the studio is situated right next to a beautiful waterfall in a building originally constructed in the late 1800s. The floors are entirely hardwood, and there is ample natural lighting in the space via large windows and skylights.
Sleeper Cave Records was originally the name given to the studio that the band Cousin Moon worked in for their self titled album. Andy was their recording engineer/bassist, and when it was time to create his own space, he chose to give it that name. The studio is all about the community of musicians who work together to create great recordings, we have access to many incredible instrumentalists, singers, arrangers and producers who can help bring any project great and small to life.

Gear
The studio is based around a Universal Audio Apollo running Pro Tools 2019, and is equipped with a large host of plugins from Universal Audio, Slate Audio, Soundtoys, Izotope, SSL, and a few others. For outboard we have a pair of Chandler Germanium Tone Controls, an AudioScape Buss Comp, a pair of Rupert Neve 511 preamps, a Multivox MX-201 tape delay, a pair of Stam 1073MPs, a Klark Teknik pultec style EQ, a Warm Audio WA176. There are also other odds and ends including a sweet Allen and Heath mini-console from the 1970s that is fat and warm.
For microphones, we have a large complement of mics from AKG (our pair of 414-BULS are the current favorite), Shure, Sennheiser, Telefunken, Oktava, etc, and a pair of strange ribbon microphones from Russia that are their own sort of magic, especially on guitar amps.
It is also home to a wonderful collection instruments, acquired over the past 10 years. We have a ton of toys, and it'd be a bit tedious to list them all here, but there are a few very cool pieces that are fantastic to play with.
We have a 1978 Fender Rhodes MKI in amazing shape, a 1973 Wurlitzer 200A for all your funky needs, a pump organ, harmonium, thrift store Lowrey organ with built in drum machine, and an 80s Yamaha synth that somehow finds its way onto most records that come out of the studio.
Also drums! Which include a 1967 Ludwig Acrolite snare and 60s kit made by Kent Drums.
For guitars we have a huge collection, including a Fender Eric Johnson Stratocaster, a Fender Jazzmaster with custom Curtis Novak pickups, a late 70s Yamaha Studio Lord (Les Paul copy, absolutely incredible). A couple Telecasters, a 1973 Epiphone EA-260 hollowbody bass, and many more.
Last but not least, the studio is home to all kinds of amplifiers. There's a Vox AC30, a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with upgraded Warehouse Speaker and master volume mod, a late 70s Acoustic 160 tube head, a 1955 Danelectro Super 68 20 watt tube amp, as well as several bass heads and cabinets.
The studio's gear selection has been carefully acquired over the years with an aim towards finding gear that has that magic "warmth" or "vibe". Apparently the 70s was a golden era for that, as a lot of the studio's equipment comes from that particular decade.
